Windshare is not a retailer of electricity. It does, however, offer consumers the opportunity to produce emissions free wind power through direct investment. To participate, you must become a member of Windshare. You can then invest in $500 increments in the project. In the cooperative tradition, all members will annually vote on whether to receive a dividend or to reinvest any earnings into the project. Current plans call for two utility-scale wind turbines on the Toronto waterfront. Each turbine is expected to generate enough power to meet the needs of 300 four-person homes. The Co-op expects to attract up to 2,000 members. The Co-op's first turbine, on the Exhibition Grounds on the Toronto waterfront, has been producing power since February 2003.

Joining the Co-op will allow you to contribute to increasing the supply of green power in Ontario but will not directly increase demand for such power unless you also sign up as a customer with one of the co-op's power purchasers. Check with Windshare to find out which companies are buying its emissions-free power.
